The students will be selected in kindergarten and then weighed in years 3 and 6. Their height will also be measured, to determine whether they are within a healthy weight range. The program is due to start later this year.

Well hey, here's a whack from the cluestick: why don't we put back the playground equipment that was ripped out of the parks around sydney? Why not give schoolkids somewhere to run around every lunchtime and maybe something to climb on (it's good exercise don't you know)?
The fact is that we still have the stupid situation where schools have climbing gym equipment but no one is allowed to use it more often than once a month, during class time, when a teacher takes an interest in supervising. I can still remember being queued up while each kid takes one quick climb, on their own, in turn then we filed back into the classroom.
This all comes back to our legal system that has lost touch with simple reality and awards massive payouts for freak accidents. Payouts that the rest of the community is expected to pay for in millions of ways, both direct and indirect.
For the past five years, the single highest expense of the Sydney Linux Users Group has been public liability insurance and this is slowly but surely bleeding the club's finance to the point where we have to either raise more money to cover these premiums or just give up on the idea of having a club. This is not limited to Linux be any means... many other clubs have been faced with the same deal and many others have just given up. The result is a poorer community and a lack of activities for anyone to take an interest in. No one goes out, they sit at home watching T.V. and getting fat and unhealthy, Meanwhile our country continues to suck,
Might be time we collectively pull finger and make a decision here.
